When selecting the right countertop for your kitchen, make sure that the material will handle the everyday use. Will it be able to withstand scratches, moisture, heat, and items being dropped?
- Natural Stone – the most popular natural stone for kitchen countertops is granite. The granite will be sealed to help protect the surface from stains, scratches, and high heat. If properly polished, sealed, and with regular maintenance, granite can have a life span in your kitchen of 10-15 years.
- Solid Surface – Corian and quartz are two examples. Corian is a more budget friendly option for a natural stone look. Quartz can be a more expensive solid surface option, but is said to be more durable. Both Corian and quartz are scratch resistant and hold up to everyday use.
- Concrete – this material can crack and chip, but is very strong and heat resistant
- Laminate – this is generally the most budget friendly countertop material. It will chip, scratch, and fade with normal use.
